Background: Corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) plays a critical role in regulating glucocorticoid bioavailability. During inflammation, plasma CBG behaves as an acute phase “negative” protein due to the down-regulation of hepatic SerpinA6 (Cbg) expression and proteolytic cleavage of CBG.
